“For us, seriously playful means creating spaces that inspire and challenge people to interact with each other and the built environment.” - Joseph Altshuler talking about Could Be Architecture’s mission to create spaces that are ‘seriously playful’.

One of the most intriguing aspects of visiting the west suburban Elmhurst Art Museum is being able to step inside one of only three existing Mies van der Rohe-designed houses in the United States.  The McCormick House was built in 1952, served as a home for different families for almost forty years and then was moved to the site of the current Elmhurst Art Museum in 1994. In recent years, the museum has invited artists and designers to activate the space with creative installations. The latest McCormick House activation comes from the Chicago-based designed practice known as Could Be Architecture.

Could Be Architecture: McCormick AfterParti opened on January 25. Visitors will encounter a bright, inviting space filled with furniture pieces that encourage interaction.

Altshuler and Morrison hope visitors who spend time with the installation leave with some inspiration when it comes to their own spaces.
