2020 Will Be The Year Of Chicago Music

WDCB’s Gary Zidek was there when Chicago’s Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events made the announcement that 2020 would be the “Year of Chicago Music”.

Next year (2020) will be the Year of Chicago Music.

Che “Rhymefest” Smith backstage at The Promontory

Award-winning artist Che “Rhymefest” Smith and Chicago DCASE Commissioner Mark Kelly announced the initiative at a press event at the Promontory on the southside of Chicago. The “year of” designation follows a recent and growing tradition of DCASE recognizing different creative sectors with year-long campaigns, 2017 was the year of public art, 2018 was the year of creative youth and this year is the year of Chicago theater.

Kelly says the year-long initiative will showcase the city’s existing music scenes and invest in new programs. The effort will be led by a steering committee and 12 working groups featuring over 200 volunteers.
